This past Tuesday, this newspaper reported that many students on campus are feeling less than thrilled over the administration's handling of certain alleged hate crimes. These hate crimes, according to witnesses, usually consist of certain words being tossed around that should never be tossed around under any circumstance. These certain words were spoken on Scan T.V., begging the question, what were you thinking? The event in question involved a student, his or her name withheld, playing a pimp, and addressing himself as f***kin Knuckles Ni**a Bit**. First of all, who let this clown on the air, and second of all, how stupid do you have to be to address yourself using such inappropriate names as the aforementioned ones? No matter what context the remarks were said in, or what exactly the perpetrator was thinking is irrelevant. What was said was ridiculous and should be looked into with great detail. As for the other alleged instances of hate on this campus, there should be absolutely no disconnect between the administrators and the students in handling of these cases. If a disconnect is found to exist, the problem needs to be corrected as soon as possible to help ensure that this campus stays safe and welcoming to all forms of students, whether they be black, white, gay, or of any other preference. To be a minority on this campus is to be something that the majority white student population probably has no idea about. It can be incredibly hard to exist in an environment that is not familiar to you, especially when there are alleged racial predators waiting in the shadows to sling their arrows of hate.

This weekend is likely to be a blow out. Just the two words are enough raise the blood level of any party hearty college student. And while your blood may continue to rise throughout the weekend, lets make sure that nobody's blood actually reaches the boiling point. There have been so many rumors going around campus about students getting beat to a pulp and kids drinking obscene amounts of alcohol and almost getting hit by oncoming traffic. This Halloween weekend is a time to celebrate, a time to be with friends and discuss everybody's hard-thought choice of costume. There is never any need for anyone on this campus to put their livelihood on the line as well as the livelihood of those surrounding them during the course of an alcohol-soaked weekend. Let's hope that this Halloween weekend can be a weekend free of incident and serious injury.
