Quote of the year:
"Really do use condoms. Don't copy what we do. We're paid actors. Don't think just because you saw a car flying in Harry Potter that you have to do that too." Nina Hartley in "Let's talk about porn"
High point of the year:
The men's hockey victory over North Dakota in the NCAA Manchester Regional, where the Wildcats tied the game at 5 with 0.1 seconds left and then won it in overtime. Toss in a little John Buccigross and Barry Melrose and you've got yourself the best moment of the 2008-2009 UNH year.
Low point of the year:
Student organizations losing their credibility. Sigma Beta, Phi Mu Delta, Freshman Camp, and the New Hampshire Gentlemen were all shut down this year. The penalties were unfortunate, but they were fair. It was disappointing to see some bad apples ruin the reputations of some student orgs.
Buzz word of the year:
Economy. In all forms of the word, the economic problems facing the country have been the most popular issues in just about every circle of students and faculty members.
TNH person of the year:
Barack Obama. So, we don't actually know him, big deal. He's our person of the year because he brought the country together again and replaced one of the worst presidents the country has ever seen. His messages of hope and change have been echoed across the world, and his election and inauguration were proud moments in U.S. history. Those days will be remembered for centuries, but his legacy remains to be seen.
