As the title suggests, every week Mike and I will try and have a regular column in TNH informing you, the student body, what we've been up to and what we have planned. As we said on our platform when we ran we wanted to improve the communication between the students, faculty and the administration, this is just one of many steps. So please continue to read on and see what's happening at your university. Thanks for reading, and as always, we welcome any ideas or suggestions you have.
First off, Mike and I have heard some complaints that there are not enough dining options for vegans. As such, we have decided to go until Thanksgiving on a strictly vegan diet. We figure this should give us a pretty good idea where the options are lacking, and what could potentially help this situation. Anyone who has any input or advice for us, please let us know.
We put a suggestion box in front of the Student Senate office in room 119 of the MUB. We also have weekly scheduled Student Senate meetings every Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Strafford room, except for Nov. 11. Everyone is encouraged to attend and participate; you do not need to be a member of Senate. These are both good ways to find out what is going on and to voice your opinion. UNH Police Chief Nick Halias informed us about the reports of the "Creeper" that had been lurking about the campus. He says that there were only two reports in the beginning of October, but hasn't been anything much since then. Always keep in mind the "buddy system," when walking around after dark, and try to stick to well lit places. If you're at all suspicious about a character in your dorm, immediately call 911 or the non-emergency security line (862-1427). After you do this, report it to your RA or Hall Director. It is better to have suspicious activity reported and found to be nothing than the other way around.
Adam McCready talked with us about Greek Life and what the difference is between a recognized and non-recognized Greek chapter. He also spoke to us about the Hazing Hotline that is now in service on campus. Any Student or member of the community is urged to use the anonymous Hazing Hotline (862-3686) if they witness or suspect any organization, society, or team of hazing. For more information on Greek Life you can go to the website www.unhmub.com/greek or stop by Adam's office in the Leadership Center first floor of the MUB.
One other thing to keep an eye out for is "Help Cards". These are pocket-sized cards that showcase the potential warning signs for certain threats on campus and who to contact if the threats are present. The first batch is a pilot run, so if you get one or see one, give us some feedback about them.
So that's it from us for now, we hope that everyone is doing well and staying active in school. Thanks again for reading, and look for us again next week right here.
