Senior defenseman Jamie Fritsch of the UNH men's hockey team was signed Sunday, April 12 by the Philadelphia Flyers and was put right to work, playing in the regular-season finale against the New York Rangers. The Rangers won the finale, 4-3, at Wachovia Center, but Fritsch was on the ice for two of the Flyers' three goals and skated a +1 overall.
Fritsch, who played in 146 career games for the Wildcats, posted 39 career points, including 28 assists. He helped guide the Wildcats to the NCAA tournament all four years during his career and was recently selected as an alternate for the 2009 NCAA Frozen Four Skills competition. He also helped guide New Hampshire to four-straight 20-win seasons and a pair of Hockey East regular-season titles.
Fritsch, who wore number 51 in his NHL debut for the Flyers, joins a growing list of Wildcats in the NHL this season. Ty Conklin and Daniel Winnik are NHL regulars, while Jason Krog, Trevor Smith and Kevin Regan have all spent time in the NHL during the 2008-09 season.
