Track & Field: UNH dominates at Wildcat Invitational

Junior Will Brehm and senior Reed Liset each recorded a pair of first-place finishes to lead the UNH men's outdoor track and field team at the non-scoring Wildcat Invitational I quad meet Saturday afternoon at the at Reggie F. Atkins Track and Field Facility.

Brehm was victorious in the 100 meters in 10.86 seconds, while senior Spencer Shaw was second in 11.11 seconds. Brehm also won the 200 meters in 22.16 seconds. Shaw and sophomore Wesley Cotnoir placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in 22.91 and 23.46 seconds.

Liset finished first in the discus with a throw of 45.92 meters, ahead of classmate Jeff Kaste, who placed second at 40.63 meters. Liset also won the hammer throw with a toss of 57.72 meters.

Sophomore Brice Paey won the shot put with a throw of 17.21 meters. Kaste, senior Jason Martin (Manchester, N.H.) and Randall finished second, third and fourth, respectively with tosses of 15.37, 13.49 and 13.47 meters.

Shaw finished first in the long jump with a leap of 6.89 meters. Junior Frank Radlof was second at 6.72 meters.

Senior Pat Casey placed first in the high jump with a leap of 1.85 meters. Junior Anders Nordquist was second at 1.80 meters. Senior Bobby Edgerton turned in a first-place finish in the 1500 meters in a time of 3:53.91. Junior Josh Kearns and senior Brent Powers placed second and third, respectively, in 4:04.20 and 4:07.30.

The Wildcats' 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay "A" teams ran to first-place finishes in times of 43.70 seconds and 3:28.68, respectively.

On the women's side, freshman Laura Stern was one of six athletes to record a first-place finish to lead the UNH women's outdoor track and field team.

Stern placed first in the javelin with an ECAC Championship- and U.S. Junior Nationals-qualifying throw of 41.95 meters, nearly 25 feet further than the runner-up.

Sophomore Megan Donohue finished first in the long jump with a leap of 5.49 meters, just ahead of classmate Megan McGrath at 5.28 meters.

Senior Elizabeth Morrissey won the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11 minutes, 37.56 seconds. Sophomore Sydney Fitzpatrick, senior Carolyn Durfee and junior Amanda Rusilas placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in times of 12:11.27, 12:12.26 and 12:17.02.

Junior Tayla Ryan was victorious in the 100-meter hurdles in a New England Championship-qualifying time of 15.494 seconds, barely beating out the runner-up, who finished at 15.497 seconds. Sophomore Kate Early was third at 15.56 seconds.

Sophomore Allison Letourneau placed first in the 800 meters in 2:18.23. Sophomore Catherine Perella and Claire Ciabotti finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in times of 2:20.28 and 2:21.44.

Senior Sarah Hall turned in a pair of top-three finishes. Hall placed second in the 100 meters in 12.46 seconds, while finishing third in the 200 in 26.01 seconds.

The Wildcats' "A" and "B" teams finished third and fourth, respectively, in both the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays. The squads finished the 4x100 in 49.99 and 52.24 seconds, while they completed the 4x400 in 4:13.09 and 4:20.04.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday, April 11 at 11 a.m. when they host the Wildcat Invitational II at the Reggie F. Atkins Track.
