The 23rd nationally ranked UNH Wildcats could not convert any of their scoring opportunities in their match against the Albany Great Danes. A late goal by Albany granted the Great Danes a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon in the America East men's soccer opener for both teams.

The Wildcats pressured the Albany defense throughout the entire match. However, Albany goalkeeper Steward Ceus had five saves. UNH senior Eric Masi, coming off a two-goal game against UMass, had three shots on goal but was unable to get them by Ceus.

"We played hard enough and well enough to win this game," said head coach Rob Thompson. "We generated enough chances, but the Albany goalie came up with some big saves today and helped his team win the match."

The Great Danes (4-1-1, 1-0 America East) earned the only goal of the match in the 79th minute when Jonathan Stroud sent a crossing pass to Timba Bimont. From ten yards, Bimont hit a one-timer past UNH goalkeeper Brian Levey for the game-winning goal.

Levey finished the match with four saves for the Wildcats. New Hampshire had ten shots and three corner kicks overall, while giving up nine shots and only one corner kick to Albany.

UNH (6-1-1, 0-1 America East) is looking for a win Tuesday, Sept. 27, against former conference rival Northeastern in Boston at 3 p.m. The next America East match for the Wildcats is next Saturday Oct. 1 against Vermont at 7 p.m. at Bremner Field.
