The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated UMass-Lowell, 4-0, before losing to New Hampshire's United Soccer League Division 2 professional team, the NH Phantoms, 2-1, in two 60-minute games on April 14. The day featured a three-team round robin on Bremner Field.

Sophomore Kyle Urso started the scoring for the Wildcats on a direct free-kick strike from 20 yards out into the far post. The score would remain 1-0 until early in second half when sophomore Scott Rowling sent a corner kick into the box that was miscleared by a UMass-Lowell defender into the goal. Junior defender Mike McKee (Newtown, Pa.) would make it 3-0 off a left-footed shot from a free-kick just outside the box. Freshmen forward Joe Annese (Attleboro, Mass.) increased the Wildcat lead to 4-0 by placing a bouncing ball over the keeper's reach off of a throw-in by Patrick Gay. Senior Michael Jenne and freshman Tunde Ogunbiyi shared goalkeeping responsibilities playing the first and second half respectively in the shutout.

UNH's second game featured a rematch of the Wildcats' first outing of the spring that resulted in a 1-1 tie. The Phantoms, the state's only professional soccer team, opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game on a short cross, but freshman Chris Banks responded just minutes later bending a shot from 18 yards out with his left foot into the top right hand corner of the net. The Phantoms would lead at the half 2-1 after UNH failed to clear a redirected cross. Ogunbiyi replaced Jenne at the half but neither team could get much going and the game ended 2-1. The Phantoms were captained by UNH assistant coach Marc Hubbard. Also representing UNH on the Phantoms' squad was 2004 All-New England selection Tyler Jackson and America East two-time Goalkeeper of the Year Brian Levey.

The Wildcats, who are 2-1-1 this spring, will face Southern New Hampshire University on Friday, April 20 at 7 p.m. and Dartmouth University on Sunday, April 22 at 2 p.m. Both matches will take place on Bremner Field.
