The Wildcats scored two goals in the first four minutes to upend the Rider Broncos 4-2. The 'Cats improved their record to 3-3 as freshman Brittany Jacobs scored two on the day.

It was Jacobs's first career goal for her college career and said it felt awesome.

"It's always a relief," said Jacobs on scoring her first college goal. "It's hard to keep the intensity up once you have that goal because you feel so confident."

The Wildcats have only scored four goals in their last three games, but managed to score all four goals in the first half.

"We've been concentrating trying to get shots," said Coach Robin Balducci. "That was a big focus of ours this week."

The first goal came within the first three minutes scored by senior captain Katie White. White has four goals and nine points in the team's first six games. The other goal was scored by freshman Michelle Tavener, her third of the season.

Though the 'Cats scored quickly they know there is room for improvement.

"We started off really good in the first 15 minutes, but we kind of lost our momentum," said Jacobs. "We really have to work on keeping that up the whole game."

Rider out shot the 'Cats 8-6 in the second half, but the defense stayed strong anchored by goalkeeper sophomore Margaux Shute. Though Rider scored in the opening minutes of the second half, Shute shut out the Broncos for the rest of the game.

"We tried to communicate with the defensive unit to stay as organized as possible," said Shute. "We stayed tough and persevered through it."

The second half was full of penalties for the 'Cats as Rider had seven penalty corners compared to the 'Cats one which left Coach Balducci feeling awful about the second half.

"It was a poor performance," said Balducci. "We made poor decisions and got taken out of our game."

The Broncos spent the majority of the second half pressuring the Wildcats defense leaving the coaching staff uneasy.

"Our staff in the second half was concerned about our lack of generating corners and possession plays," said Balducci.

With just two seniors and three juniors on its 23-player roster the Wildcats are young and as they are still learning, they will make mistakes.

"Unfortunately that's what you get with youth," said Balducci. "They can easily be persuaded by another team."

This was the teams first ever game against Rider. The Wildcats next game is away at Connecticut on Sept. 14.
