A UNH student died and five other people were injured in a car accident in Stoddard on Saturday.
20-year old Justine Erunski of Keene was driving west on Route 9 shortly before 1 p.m., when she crossed over the center yellow line and collided with a car in the opposite lane being driven by Joseph K. Almeida of Deerfield, according to state police. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three others in Erunski's car - Jocelyn Lubniewski of Davidsonville, Md., Jenny Provo of Nantucket, Mass. and Kelly Erunski of Keene - were seriously injured and taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
Lubniewski and Provo are UNH juniors, and Kelly Erunski is Justine's mother.
On Sunday afternoon, Provo was listed in serious condition, according to the Keene Sentinal's website. Lubniewski was listed in serious but stable condition.
Erunski, Lubniewski and Provo are listed as roommates at the Gables apartments in the UNH student directory.
UNH released a statement on Sunday morning in response to the tragedy.
"All of us at UNH extend our sympathy to Justine's family and friends," said Kim Billings, UNH spokesperson. "Our thoughts also go out to her mother and our two students who were injured. It is a somber day at UNH."
The university's crisis intervention team met Sunday morning to begin identifying classmates, friends and professors who knew the victims, according to Billings.
Group and individual counseling will be available and staff in Office of Student and Academic Services are in touch with the families of the two students injured.
No funeral arrangements have been announced.
The UNH flag has been lowered to half staff today in remembrance of Erunski.
The driver of the other vehicle in the crash, Jospeh Almeida, suffered minor injuries. One of his passengers, Brianna Frost, 19, of Concord suffered non-life threatening injuries. Another passenger, Ryan Whatmough, 20, of Deerfield, was uninjured.
