The New Hampshire (TNH) is getting a new look and looking to save you money. With the new partnership with GossRSVP, TNH is bringing new technology to students and advertisers.
TNH joins with Fosters Daily Democrat as they partner with GossRSVP, a subsidiary of Goss International, a worldwide manufacturer of newspaper and printing equipment. Goss' headquarters is in Bolingbrook, Illinois with offices internationally and Durham and Dover.
The service works by using a cell phone. Readers can record a RSVP bar code in an advertisement, send it to GossRSVP and receive a coupon or reward. GossRSVP in turn can inform the business how many people are reading their ad. Director of GossRSVP Roger Belanger explained it as a print version of ads on the internet.
"When a person clicks on an internet ad with their mouse, the advertiser gets feed back that someone clicked on their ad. The RSVP system mirrors the internet, printed products are the web, and the cell phone is the mouse. Therefore we give advertisers feedback, in real time, when someone acts on their RSVP offers via a text message." The instant coupon can be kept in the text message inbox, Belanger explained, and redeemed instantly at local businesses.
Sophomore Ashley Luszey would text the bar code "if there was something I'd use." She adds that the discount would have to be substantial for her to send the text.
Brittany Boivin, a junior, was hesitant. "I guess it'd be okay. It depends though. Some people don't have unlimited texting. Some companies have hidden charges."
Freshmen Alice Yen, who does not text a lot, supported the system. "I like clipping coupons, but if there's an easier way of doing it, sure." Yen said she would be hesitant as she does not have an unlimited plan.
On the whole, of those asked, most students who do text a lot would be willing to use the RSVP system if it saved money.
With the new technology, readers are not the only people saving money. Advertisers are better informed as to whom and how many people are seeing their advertisements.
Business advisor at TNH Julie A. Perron explained how GossRSVP will help businesses make better informed decisions about their advertising dollars. "One of the hardest objections voiced by advertisers is that it is hard to track the results of their dollars spent on print. Not everyone "clips coupons."" Perron added readership for newspapers is dropping off as more and more people depend on the internet for news.
However, she went on to say, "Goss' technology gives our customers a new, high-tech tracking tool that could help them get tangible results from their print ad dollars."
Belanger added the possibilities of using the RSVP system are endless. "Coupon and discounts are a first step, and with adoption, further interactive content will evolve in terms of using it for editorial response, classifieds, opinion surveys, sports scores, trivia, etc."
The first edition of TNH with the interactive RSVP system ads can be seen in today's edition. Belanger said four to six local businesses will have RSVP codes that can be redeemed for coupons.
"We see this as a Win/Win scenario," said Belanger. "For readers, it is a new method to save money and have fun with their phone. For advertisers it enhances their printed product by providing a state-of-the-art method to sell their products to the digital consumer."
