Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. HTC One M9

Both smartphones have been released last year, but one of them was praised for its new design, while the other was criticized for looking almost identical to its predecessor. We’re talking about the Galaxy S6, which is the best looking Samsung device, which is stacking up against the all-metal One M9.

Designs and Displays

The Galaxy S6 looks amazing with its glass back that is available in various options of colors: White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum and Blue Topaz. This new design replaced the ugly dotted pattern from the plastic back of the Galaxy S5 and the frame is now made of metal and it’s more durable. The device is much slimmer, measuring 6.8mm, while it has a weight of 138 grams, and the screen is as large as on the previous model, featuring a diagonal of 5.1-inch, while it supports a higher resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels at 577 ppi and it was created using Samsung’s Super AMOLED technology, which is famous for delivering the most vibrant colors.

The One M9 is almost the identical version of the One M8, whose body is made of aluminum, with a brushed effect, and it comes in the following variants of colors: Gunmetal Gray, Amber Gold, Pink, Silver/Rose gold (dual tone) and Gold/Pink (dual tone). The device is thicker at 9.6mm and it weights 157 grams, but its screen is slightly smaller and uses the Super LCD3 technology, with colder tones. The 5-inch screen supports only a Full HD resolution which gives a pixel density of 441ppi, so it’s not as sharp as the one from the Galaxy S6.

The Galaxy S6 runs now on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and inside it houses a powerful Exynos 7420 octa core processor (quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57) accompanied by a Mali-T760MP8 GPU and 3GB of RAM, and this combination is superior to what the One M9 has received: Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 octa core processor (quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A57) which is backed by an Adreno 430 GPU and 3GB of RAM, but the advantage of the One M9 is that soon it will be upgraded to Marshmallow. The drawback of the Galaxy S6 is the missing microSD card slot, which limits the users to one of the three variants of internal memories: 32/64/128 GB. The One M9 offers 32GB of storage, but if you need more space, add the microSD card and get up to 128GB.

Cameras and Batteries

The Galaxy S6 might have a main camera with a lower resolution of 16MP, but it takes crispy photos thanks to the collection of features that Samsung has added, such as OIS, LED flash, 1/2.6″ sensor size, 1.12 µm pixel size etc. Also, the aperture is wider (f/1.9) and the device can record 4K videos. The front camera has received a small upgrade, as the resolution has been increased from 2MP to 5MP. HTC has moved the 4MP Ultrapixel rear camera from the One M8 to the front of the M9 and on the back of the new model has been placed a 20MP camera with an aperture of f/2.2, autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, 1/2.4″ sensor size, 1.2 µm pixel size etc.

The Galaxy S6 has a 2550 mAh battery which lasts 17 hours when making voice calls, being outperformed by the 2840 mAh battery of the One M9.
