A 23-year-old male suffered a heart attack while stadium running in the Hamel Recreation Center at 4:04 p.m. on Saturday.

“Our units arrived within two minutes,” said Assistant Fire Chief Jason Cleary of the Durham Fire Department. “Upon arrival the staff was performing C.P.R. and had administered one shock from the A.E.D.”

The man collapsed at the Recreation Center and, while he was not conscious, he was breathing when authorities arrived.

A McGregor ambulance brought the man to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.

Staff at the Recreation Center could not comment about the heart attack victim or incident.

Cleary did not know the victim’s name, nor could he release his name if he did know.

While Cleary has had “no follow-up” from Wentworth-Douglass Hospital yet, the man did “leave (the scene) with a pulse.”
