This semester, WUNH has been selected to host mtvU’s College Radio Countdown. The show allows a college radio station from around the country the opportunity to select the Top 10 mtvU videos that uniquely represent their college station.

“We chose entertaining videos and also focused on having the most diverse Top 10 from guys like Andrew Bird to Aesop Rock,” said Sean Riley, WUNH music director. “It’s one thing to hear about our station, but now people will get to see it.”

WUNH will be featured for a whole week starting on Tuesday, March 12. This gives WUNH the opportunity to show what UNH is listening to and the genres that it tries to encompass musically at its station.

“We want to showcase what we are all about and keep the viewer entertained,” Riley said.

With colleges like Emerson, Penn State and Georgetown previously being shown on the Top 10, UNH has its chance of being recognized for its very own radio station.

“We’re definitely in good company,” Riley said when looking over the schools that have hosted the show before.

WUNH’s variety in music has included many different genres. By being nominated for two awards at the College Music Journal last semester, WUNH put itself on the map for radio recognition. The station was nominated for the “Biggest Improvement” award, while Riley was specifically nominated for the “Will Never Sell Out” award.

“I think that the CMJ nominations put us on the radar for mtvU,” said Alicia Jacobs, WUNH Promotions Director. “It got us on the map a little in the college music community.”

Riley and Jacobs have pushed for social recognition in the community, trying to get WUNH known not just on campus, but nationally.

“Hopefully this will increase our national and international audience,” Riley said
