The University of New Hampshire's Greek community held its awards banquet this Sunday in the MUB's Granite State Room.

The big winner of the night was the Chi Omega sorority, which won Chapter of the Year, Outstanding Academic/Intellectual Initiative, and Outstanding Community Collaboration as a group. Individual members of the sorority won the Unsung Greek, Greek Ambassador, Pillar of Athena, Emerging Leaders and Greek of the Year awards.

"It felt really good," said junior Mireille Hartley, a sister in Chi Omega who won one of the Greek of the Year prizes, among other awards.

Other fraternities, sororities and societies that were either recognized as a whole or for individual members include Pi Kappa Alpha, Alpha Delta Phi, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Kappa Delta, Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Xi Phi, and Alpha Phi.

"It is nice to know our hard work is paid off," said senior Cullen DeLangie, who accepted the Outstanding Values-Based Recruitment Program as a member of the Alpha Delta Phi Society.
Professor Andrew P. Laudano of the department of Molecular, Cellular and Biomedical Sciences took home the award for Outstanding Faculty or Staff Member while Ben Sturgill of Greek Intervarsity won the Tiffany Snyder Dedication Award, which praises a supportive non-Greek member of the community.

The banquet ran for an hour and a half and included the awards ceremony, food and remarks from the leaders of the Panhellenic Council, the United Greek Association and the Interfraternity Council.  Adam Brammer, president of the IFC stressed in his remarks that it is important for the Greek community to not be stereotyped as a certain type of student.
The awards ceremony helped to highlight some of the diversity and good the Greek community is doing for UNH as a whole.
