A special thank-you from TNH
Issue date: 5/6/08 Section: Commentary
TNH would like to take the time to send a special thank-you to UNH journalism professor and program director Jane Harrigan. A Boston College graduate, her career in journalism has led her to work for the Associated Press, The Concord Monitor, and The St. Petersburg Times. Her book The Editorial Eye is used in college editing courses around the country. Her book Read All About It traced one day's activities at The Boston Globe. Her work has appeared in Quill, Writer's Digest, American Journalism Review, and The New York Times. She received the 1998 Excellence in Teaching Award at UNH and was a juror for the 2006 and 2007 Pulitzer Prizes. Her expertise has led her to speak at the Poynter Institute, the American Press Institute, and the American Copy Editors Society.
Along with her impressive credentials, Professor Harrigan has been a teacher, friend and counselor to a generation of UNH journalism students. She has trained young writers in the art of newswriting and editing and led courses focused on the ethical issues of our profession. She has also helped to send countless UNH journalism interns to their first "real world" newspaper jobs.
From all TNHers and UNH journalists past and present, thank you Professor Harrigan. Without you, we would never know how to spell definitely.

I whole-heartly agree with this thank you! There isn't a day that goes by that I don't use of the many tools I learned in Professor Harrigan's class. She is a wonderful mentor and professor. (Continued…)
