Umile was named New England's Division I Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his storied career. He was also honored as New England's top coach in 1991, 1999 and 2003. In a season of parity in Hockey East, Umile's Wildcats were the only standout team, posting a 19-5-3 record in the league to win the regular season title by eight points. The team earned a No. 1 seeding in the NCAA Tournament and finished the season with a final record of 25-10-3. Umile opened the season by capturing his 400th-career win in a 4-1 win at BU. He captured his 15th 20+win season and captured 25 wins in back-to-back seasons. This year, the Wildcats were the first team in college hockey to win their league's regular season as the team won its seven regular season title during Umile's tenure
