UNH President Mark Huddleston is set to give his annual State of the University address at 1 p.m. this Thursday in the Granite State Room of the Memorial Union Building.
According to a UNH press release, Huddleston will review UNH’s achievements over the past year and look toward the university’s future.
In his address last September, Huddleston focused on how the university was dealing with the 50 percent state funding cut the N.H. state legislature levied against the university system in 2011. He stressed the importance of keeping UNH affordable for students and their families.
Since that speech, hiring freezes and layoffs absorbed about 80 percent of the budget cuts. But the final 20 percent was made up for in tuition hikes for both in-state and out-of-state students.
This year, Huddleston will be giving his address after the USNH Board of Trustees offered to freeze tuition for in-state students for two years if the state legislature restores the university system’s funding.
The address is open to the public, with the GSR’s doors opening at 12:40 p.m.
