The UNH chapter of the American Association of University professors (AAUP) placed a full-page ad in the Feb. 23, 2010, issue of The New Hampshire advising students it will boycott the upcoming summer session if a contract settlement is not reached prior to the final scheduling of classes.
We want to assure all students and their families that this action will not disrupt the educational progress of our students. The university intends to offer the classes that our students need and are counting on being available.
Please be assured we remain committed to ensuring there is no disruption to the educational opportunities of our students or to the university's day-to-day operations throughout this process. Our students are the university's number one priority.

So who are you referring to as not qualified? In my department, several of our own tenure-track faculty or committed adjuncts regularly teach summer-school courses and are still planning on teaching those courses this summer. Other adjunct faculty do come on to teach summer courses from time to time, usually from other NE schools where they don't have the opportunity to do summer teaching. However, each of these folks is personally approved by the department chair and the program coordinator. In past years, these people have come from schools like Northeastern, Simmons College, Wesleyan, Norwich, etc. So how exactly is this "dragging the bottom for second and third stringers"?
