The UNH baseball team had three games this past weekend at the Campus Recreation Field, with one game being played on Friday and the other being a part of a doubleheader on Saturday.

The action started Friday night against Tufts University, who they defeated 11-1.

“All around dominating effort,” Matt Keene, team captain, said. “Great hitting, great pitching, great game.”

Saturday, the team faced off in a double header against Babson College. The Wildcats lost the first game 9-5, but came back and won the second game 7-4.

“First game was frustrating,” Keene said. “We were up 3-2, and then in the fifth we laid an egg and left our starter in a little too long and just lost it by the end.”

Despite losing the first game, the team rebounded at the end of the game, scoring a couple runs at the end to build momentum for the second game.

“We got ahead early and we stayed ahead, so that was good,” catcher Sam Gagnon said.

The Wildcats and Babson were locked in a back and forth game two innings in. Entering the third, UNH was down 2-1, until the Wildcats scored five later in the inning.

“We got a bunch of hits, Zach Hutton got us the three run homer,” Keene said. “It was getting a little chippy out there so [the homerun] gave us some confidence to build on.”

Hutton was the star of the game with a three-run blast that gave UNH the lead that it would not relinquish. Keene also had a solo shot later in the game.

The Wildcats showed strong defense throughout the game, jamming their pitcher out of a bases loaded situation early in the game.

The Wildcats now sit at 6-2 and travel to face Boston College on April 20 before coming back to UNH on April 21 to face Tufts at 7:30 p.m. The latter game will be senior night for the team.

Finally, UNH will play host to the American Club Baseball Association playoffs on the weekend of April 28-29.
