There is a new website at UNH that allows students to print their schedules, check the weather, find a restaurant for lunch, and learn 50 different Ramen noodle recipes all at the same time.

CampusLIVE, founded in 2007 by three UMass Amherst students - Boris Resvin, Jared Stenquist, and Jeff Cassidy - was created as an attempt to simplify students' lives. The site has now been customized for 85 college campuses across the country.

According to the site's homepage, CampusLIVE "provides single-click access to e-mail, Facebook, classes, athletics, food, news, and entertainment" at no cost to students.
UNH junior Andrew Holmes said he had never heard of the new website, and that he wasn't sure he would use it.

"It sounds really cool," Holmes said.  "But I don't know if I would go out of my way to learn how to use a new website."

Other students who have explored the new site, however, feel differently.

"I think it looks really useful," said UNH junior Lauren Campbell.  "It has a lot of the links I would like to check out, like Facebook, e-mail, the library."

UNH senior Brendan Callahan agreed.

"It's like EverythingDurham.com but better. I would definitely use the menus for the restaurants downtown and the link for transit."

Providing the information that UNH students actually need was very important to the CampusLIVE team while creating the site.  The content now available was chosen through close work with UNH students, said CampusLIVE Product Manager Mike Miklavic.

"We've spent time speaking with many UNH students about their favorite places around town," said Miklavic.

Miklavic also said his two brothers, UNH junior Dan Miklavic and sophomore Tom Miklavic, who work as UNH Campus Reps, have helped determine what content is most needed by students.

Content currently featured on the UNH CampusLIVE site includes the Food Finder, which provides students with menus and coupons for local eateries, along with information on when restaurants are open and whether or not they deliver.

Other features include television listings, local movie times, and links to websites on which to buy textbooks.

While the site is already customized to meet the needs of UNH students, the staff believes there's still more work to be done.

"The site is nearly fully customizable, which allows you to set up your homepage exactly how you like it," Tom Miklavic said.  "My roommate and I are both constantly using the site and our layouts are very different, as we have shaped them to fit our personalities."

Dan agreed, saying that the ability for each student to customize their CampusLIVE homepage is one of the aspects of the site that makes it a solid resource.

"The customization factor of the site makes it extremely easy for students to log on and have everything they personally want and need at their finger tips," Dan said.  "It is the only site that I've seen that can bring students a perfect mixture of their UNH school life and their personal interests."

UNH junior Sabrina Hashmi said she would consider using CampusLIVE as her homepage.

"I would definitely use it because it has so many links to things like Facebook, Pandora, and Cats Cache, and all in one place," Hashmi said.

"CampusLIVE at UNH is doing very well," Mike said.  "We've seen great growth on the site and expect a huge semester.  UNH is near the top of the list in terms of most popular CampusLIVE schools."

According to Dan, the team hopes to set up a booth in the MUB on Friday equipped with computers to show students exactly what advantages CampusLIVE has over other similar sites.

"I believe the promotion of the site will happen largely by word of mouth," Tom said.  "If I start by telling a few students about it who then love the site, hopefully they too will share their interest [with others]."
