If you have the flu…
-Go home if you live close enough to campus or stay in your residence. When you do leave your residence, wear a mask.
-Let your professors know you’re sick. Health Services doesn’t provide doctor’s notes, but Grace-Bishop said they are reaching out to staff and faculty to inform them about the outbreak.
-Get plenty of bed rest.
-Drink clear fluids and eat nutritiously. Takeout meals from the dining halls can be coordinated through RAs or hall directors.
-Treat your symptoms. Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen to help with fevers and body aches. For coughs, use lozenges and take cough syrup. Gargle with salt water if you have a sore throat.
-Manage your stress level
Some prevention tips
-Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
-Wash your hands with soap and water.
-Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
-Eat healthy, get enough sleep and manage your stress.
-Don’t share towels, eating utensils, drinking glasses, or other things that could spread germs.
-Cough and sneeze into your elbow or shoulder, not your hand.

My child came home from school saying they learned to cough and sneeze into their elbows with Germie Wormie, and I was totally taken aback. I always used my hands. But I went to the website, and now I get it, hands touch, elbows don't!! Kids can touch up to 300 surfaces in 1/2 an hour, and they hate to wash their hands. This is a simple thing that can make a huge difference. There is also an entertaining DVD that teaches kids how to do this and reinforces other important preventative habits.
