Android WhatsApp users are finally receiving the new video calling feature. This feature has been live before, but only for Windows Phone users. If you have the beta version 2.16.318 for WhatsApp you will be able to test out the new video calling feature. Apple users have to wait a bit longer until they get access.
To use the new implemented feature both the call and receiver must have the beta version 2.16.316 of WhatsApp installed on their Android smartphones to be able to test out the video call option. If an user with the version tries to call another user of WhatsApp, that does not have the beta version installed a prompt error message will pop-up with the following text: “Couldn’t place call. Your Contact needs to update WhatsApp to receive video call.”.
The beta version 2.16.318 for WhatsApp for the Android OS can be downloaded from the APK site. The call quality might be the best it can be because of the traffic their servers are getting now.
If you are wondering how to use video call on WhatsApp, don’t worry, the interface is really simple. All you need to do is tap the dialer icon and two options will pop-up, one for voice call and the other for video call. When you select video call, the app will automatically activate your front camera and start the call. A big difference in the video call feature for WhatsApp and other app’s with the same options like Duo, from Google, is that you can’t see your caller live feed before you answer the call.
