The popular communications app Viber has come out with a brand new update that brings out some pretty cool features. While most mobile app updates are maintenance or bug squashing patches, this one is not as bland. Users will be pleased to find out that there are two intriguing features now available to those that download the update.
Self-destructing photos
You can now choose whether a photo you send on Viber remains there forever or not. To be more specific, users are able to add a timer to their message. Once that timer expires, the sent images is deleted forever. This is a cool feature that many will appreciate. Don’t believe us? Look at Snapchat, they practically built an empire around this particular type of messaging feature.
Using this feature, you will be able to add more value to your photos because whomever you are sending them to now knows they have to appreciate them while they last. It’s harder to see the value in something that you can always come back later to look at.
Instant video
A new instant video feature was added as well. This allows Viber users to use the new instant video button and instantly record. This feature is also similar to what Snapchat has. Once you start the recording, you will have 30 seconds at your disposal to get your point across or showcase the great moment you are a part of. After the recording ends, the video will be instantly sent to the recipient.
After the massive success of Snapchat, all competitors have been slowly adding features to their own services that emulate the behavior of Snapchat and its app. From WhatsApp to Facebook, and now Viber, all players have taken a page or two out of Snapchat’s book to improve their own game.
