Last month, WhatsApp has released a new version of their Status feature, and surprisingly, this change was not as welcomed as the developers probably expected it to be. The feature resembles the Stories functionality present on Snapchat and Instagram and it allows you to share a video or a photo with them, which will disappear in 24 hours. Even so, many fans were disappointed and unhappy, expressing their feelings on the Internet. Mostly, they were upset with the fact that WhatsApp wasn’t the simple messaging app they were used to. However, there is a way to bring back the old WhatsApp!
How to get it back:
- Download the previous apk for the app, version 2.17.60 from their official website.
- Go to Settings/ Security (or Security and Fingerprint, depending on your device)/ Enable Unknown Sources. You will receive a warning, but you should ignore it.
- Back up the Chat. Open WhatsApp, go to Settings/ Chat Backup/ Backup. Then you have to select whether you want to make the backup locally or with the help of the Google Drive. If you don’t have a fast Internet connection, it is recommendable to ignore the Drive option.
- Once the backup is complete, you have to uninstall the current app from the device. Go to Settings/ Apps/ WhatsApp/ Uninstall. If the app came preinstalled, then you can uninstall the updates.
- Choose a location on the device for the file you downloaded first. Place it somewhere where you can access it easily.
- Install the apk, then enter the current phone number you are using and verify it. Now you can enjoy the old version!
Keep in mind that you have to disable automatic updates from Google Play Store if you want the app to work, and also don’t agree to the updates if they pop up!
