Enable the Galaxy S8 Launcher on Galaxy S7/S7 Edge Nougat

TNH Staff · April 5, 2017 · Leave a Comment

We’ll finally enjoy a new set of features and some juicy new apps together with the release of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus by the end of April. But there’s good news for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge owners, as they are able to try some of them even as we speak.

Thanks to XDA Developer forums, you can already start downloading and installing the Galaxy S8’s launcher onto your S7 or S7 Edge device. The forums mentioned before outline a seven-step procedure pretty easy-to-follow for doing so which does not require any root privileges.  It implies setting up a shortcut to the APK file for installation just right after you restart your mobile device.

Once you’ve successfully finished the installation, you’ll enjoy the new fresh look of Galaxy S8’s apps and home screen on your S7/S7 Edge. It seems that you also have the brand new AI Bixby coming along with this launcher; you just have to swipe to the right of your home screen, but unfortunately it turns out to be quite unstable for now.

On some Samsung devices you’re also going to be able to install the Nav keys from the Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge: they consist of the new on-screen Home, Recent Apps and Return keys. They replace the physical home buttons of the previous versions of Galaxy mobile devices.

According to the uploader, these were tested only on Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus therefore it’s not yet a sure thing whether they also work with other devices or not. But given the fact that they’re compatible with the S8 Launcher, they might just work or S7 and S7 Edge.

The new apps button looks cool, but after you have installed the new nav bar, you’ll find yourself with two sets of buttons on your handset (the touchscreen and the physical ones).

Anyway, check out the new launcher and nav bar, and let us know what you think.
