Moto G5 vs. Moto G5 Plus – Storage, Size and Fingerprint Scanners

TNH Staff · April 5, 2017 · Leave a Comment

With Lenovo launching the Moto G5 Plus this March, it’s now time for its younger sibling, the Moto G5 to see the light of day as well. While at first sight, the two phones look identical, and in terms of design, they truly are, the specs are different. Here’s all you need to know about the hardware differences between the Moto G5 and the Moto G5 Plus.

What’s New?

As it was the case with last year’s Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus, the Plus version is also better this year. However, unlike last year’s situation, the smaller sibling now comes quite close to its superior variant. Both of them have fingerprint scanners, as well as Corning Gorilla Glass 3 technology with splash-resistant coating.

The first difference would be that the Moto G5 Plus is slightly larger, but only by a smidge. The G5 Plus is 5.2 inches, while the G5 is 5 inches sharp. Truth be told, 0.2 inches is such an insignificant difference, you barely notice it if you look at them side by side.

In terms of processor, the G5 Plus wins with a heftier Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, as opposed to the G5’s more basic Qualcomm Snapdragon 430. What is more, the Moto G5 comes with 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, while the Plus has two variants, the 3 and 4GB RAM with either 16 or 64GB of internal memory. Both phones offer SD-support.

Both phones run on the same version of Android Nougat, and will soon have Google Assistant on them. The G5 Plus has a beefier battery, with a capacity of 3000 mAh, while the standard G5 comes with a 2800 mAh one. Again, the difference is not that significant, but it’s there. And, finally, the G5 is cheaper than its Plus sibling, naturally. From here on, the choice is yours.
