The upcoming release of the new Microbus from Volkswagen has become the next big thing. In fact, nothing is fit to operate as a rolling billboard and delivery vehicle in one.
Volkswagen has confirmed the production of its new concept vehicle come 2022. This was after the company was able to wow the buying public in the late 1960s and early 1970s with the release of the famous Microbus. This time, they are hoping to accomplish an all-electric vehicle doing the same thing.
According to Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess, the customers would want to have this type of car. This was revealed at the international motor show in Geneva and Detroit, as they received emails and letters from the customers.
The said plan to revive the Microbus has been considered quite fitting due to the amazing historical background of the Microbus in California. This was indeed very popular during the 60s and 70s from Southern to Northern California.
In a past diesel scandal faced by the company, it cost them billions of dollars, not to mention ruining its reputation. Thus, it has affected its sales all over the U.S.
Nevertheless, sales figures were up by 5.9% in 2017 within the automobile market with overall sales down by 2.9%. Although this can be an impressive feedback, Volkswagen is still far from where it was before.
The I.D. Buzz concept will start selling by 2022 for customers who are interested in lots of space for passengers. It would also appeal to those who are nostalgic of the original Microbus, gasoline-powered vehicle, and rear-engine models.
More likely, the I.D. Buzz will be available for sale as a cargo van, according to VW executives. Moreover, it is intended for the commercial market in different cities where internal combustion engine vehicles are becoming more expensive to operate due to emissions regulations.
As an all-electric vehicle, the I.D. Buzz will take advantage of the autonomous driving and electrification capabilities introduced under that label. In addition, iconic Microbus may regain the confidence that Volkswagen has lost from customers due to the past diesel emission scandal.
