BMW M140i Spotted on the Nurburgring Track

TNH Staff · November 28, 2017 · Leave a Comment

It seems like BMW is already adding the finishing touches to its upcoming Series 1 model. The car was recently filmed on the Nurburgring track where it raced alongside the current generation of BMW Series 1. The first thing we can notice about the next generation Series 1 is that its smaller. This seems to be a reoccurring trend for BMW since it has a habit of downsizing its new cars.

New BMW M140i

The first thing we need to mention about BMW’s upcoming car is that while the current M140i model is available with an optional XDrive layout, the next generation M140i will ship in all-paw configuration. Things don’t end there since the new BMW car will feature some major changes which will categorize it as a front-wheel-drive platform.

Losing Size and Power

As previously mentioned, the all-new M140i is smaller than what we’re used to. As a result of that, the upcoming car will lose two cylinders but it will receive a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine which should make up for the two cylinders. In terms of direct power, the new M140i will put out somewhere around 320-340 horsepower. In addition, BMW is expected to change the M140i moniker, but we have yet to find out what it will be.

Front-Wheel-Drive Platform

While some people might be considering M140i’s switch to FWD a bad thing, this might not be the case. The biggest advantage that using FWD will bring to M140i is that it will make the car roomier, thus giving some leg space for passengers. Not only that, but the car’s driving platform change will also help with its fuel efficiency.

Last but not least, the model will receive a facelift. This shouldn’t surprise anyone since BMW loves to do this with all its new models. Therefore, the upcoming hatchback will be smaller, but roomier and it will look completely different than what we’re used to.
