The Galaxy A5 (2017) is a mid-range smartphone with a 5.2-inch Full HD screen that has been announced last month. The device sports a 000 mAh battery that Samsung claims to support up to 13 hours of web browsing time on 3G, three hours more on 4G LTE and up to five hours more on Wi-Fi. The guys at PhoneArena performed some battery tests and they were pleased with the scores obtained by the Galaxy A5 (2017).
It’s worth knowing that the Galaxy A5 (2017) is powered by a 14nm Exynos 7880 octa-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A53 processor backed by 3GB of RAM. The tests were also performed on the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016), Huawei nova, Honor 8, Samsung Galaxy S7, Apple iPhone 7, Apple iPhone 6s and Google Pixel, and for starters, they were put at the same 200-nit brightness, which is a common level that’s used indoors. This is how all devices scored:
- Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017): 11h 9 min (rated Excellent);
- Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016): 9h 55 min (rated Excellent);
- Huawei nova: 10h 1 min (rated Excellent);
- Honor 8: 9h 7 min (rated Excellent);
- Samsung Galaxy S7: 6h 37 min (rated Average);
- Apple iPhone 7: 7h 46 min (rated Good);
- Apple iPhone 6s: 8h 15 min (rated Excellent);
- Google Pixel: 7h 45 min (rated Good).
The second test was to establish how long it takes for the Galaxy A5 (2017) to recharge from 0 to 100 percent, using the stock wall charger. The Galaxy A5 (2017) needed 91 minutes, being on the second place after the Galaxy S7, with 88 minutes and the secret behind this achievement has to do with the Fast Adaptive Charger used by Samsung, which pushes up to 15-watts to the battery of the phone. The previous gen Galaxy A5 (2016) required 96 minutes to fully charge, being followed by: Honor 8 – 98 minutes, Huawei nova – 117 minutes, Google Pixel – 119 minutes, Apple iPhone 7 – 141 minutes and Apple iPhone 6s – 150 minutes.
