Various technological advancements have simplified and improved our life terribly in the last decade, if we were to have a look at it. The Google Earth service is one of these examples, being a great tool that allows you to see any corner in the world, while sitting down on your computer. However, it is not the only option of its kind out there, and if you’re looking for alternatives, you’ve come to the right place.

NASA World Wind

This is an open-source app and one of the best alternatives you can find for Google Earth. It is in fact a Software Development Kit that relies on Java and targets mainly developers that use it to create new apps.

Marble

Marble is a robust alternative for the famous Google service that offers several viewing modes. This means that you can see the planet as a 3D globe, but you can also highlight topographical features, certain street views and precipitation or temperature data. It is also free.

Earth Browser

Even if its interface is not as fancy, the Earth Browser is a cool virtual globe app that brings lots of features. It’s a simulation of the planet and you can check weather conditions and weekly forecasts in real time for thousands of places. You can see live hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanoes.

Flash Earth

If you just need to see a satellite image of the Earth, then the browser based Flash Earth app is great for you. This online tool uses various sources and it is available on the web for free. The best thing about it is that it relies on information from Bing Maps, NASA and ARcGIS. You can choose any custom date for the images that come from NASA, so you can see what the Earth looked like on a specific day, month or year.
