Earlier this week, the tech giant Apple has announced that they are working on some new Mac products which we should expect this year. At the same time, the top executives of the company have made some extra comments with the purpose of reassuring the fans that they are not shutting down the Mac line. However, we spotted a little gem in those remarks, which shows that the company allows users to upgrade their won underpowered MacBook graphics. So, Mac tinkerers, rejoice!
Is it real?
From what we can see, it is very real! Matthew Panzarino, a representative from Tech Crunch, has asked Craig Federighi from Apple about the Apple philosophy when it comes to external GPUs. His answer was quite surprising, since he said that he thinks there is a place for them too. And with such a simple answer, the problem was solved.
Ever since the release of the MacBook Pro model in the fall of 2016, the device has received lots of criticism because of tis poor RAM performance and the inferior quality graphics card. However, soon enough many users discovered that they can rely on external GPUs in order to enhance the performance of the Apple product.
The advantages were clear: people could upgrade the GPU in time and have a better graphics performance without worrying about consuming their battery. Despite this, there was also a downside: you had to pay extra for an enclosure of the GPU, as well as on the GPUs. Moreover, the system only worked while it was in the desktop mode, since you can’t take away the external GPU with you.
All in all, it’s good news that Apple does not want to block their users from using external GPUs. Of course, make sure you know what you’re doing beforehand!
