BEGINNING AIKIDO
Duration: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Location: Seacoast Family Y, 550 Peverly Hill Road, Portsmouth

Portsmouth Aikido will offer an introductory class for adults (ages 12 and up) beginning September 23, at the Seacoast Family Y, 550 Peverly Hill Road, Portsmouth. The eight-week course will be held at the Y from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Sundays. The cost for all eight sessions is $95.00, and includes a Portsmouth Aikido T-shirt. Recently celebrating its twelfth anniversary, Portsmouth Aikido has 20 members and offers classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Aikido is a martial art that teaches how to render an attack harmless by controlling and re-directing the attack.

Portsmouth Aikido is an on-going Aikido school and a member of the United States Aikido Federation, serving the communities of southern New Hampshire, Maine, and northern Massachusetts. Portsmouth Aikido welcomes visitors to watch any class or try out a free practice at any of its regularly scheduled practice times. The University of New Hampshire's chapter of STAND, an Anti-Genocide Student Cololation, is having a free showing of the movie Hotel Rwanda, staring Don Cheadle, Tuesday October 30 in MUB Theater 1 at 7pm. Food and beverages will be provided. Following the film, history professor Funso Afolayan will be speaking.

Joseph has been playing an Australian Aboriginal-made didgeridoo since 1997 with local blues and jazz musicians. In 2005, he opened his harmonic therapy practice in Portsmouth with the goal of helping people realign their bodies’ natural rhythms on a cellular level through harmonic therapy. He believes that harmonic therapy can help people achieve a greater sense of natural health and open doors for a higher sense of creativity and consciousness. The Living Spiritual Elders Project

Psychotherapist, interfaith spiritual director and author Meredith Jordan offers an inspiring opportunity to participate in The Living Spiritual Elders Project, an eight-week discovery and discussion series. Presented by the non-profit Rogers McKay organization, The Living Spiritual Elders Project uses rare DVD films and audio CDs to explore the teachings of revered spiritual elders from diverse faith and spiritual traditions. In this eight-week series, we will plumb the wisdom of the elders of our human family: wisdom that assists us in renewing our personal lives and shaping our common destiny.

We meet eight successive Wednesday afternoons from 4:00-6:30 pm from October 17th to December 12th, 2007, at North Church of Portsmouth, 355 Spinney Road, Portsmouth.
