Symantec announced today that applications are now being accepted for the 2008 Symantec Graduate Fellowship. This award was established to identify and support exceptional graduate students who are investigating novel ways to solve real-world problems in security and availability, and have a desire to work alongside leading industry experts at an industrial research lab.

The one-year fellowship covers 100 percent of the student's tuition and fees and provides a $20,000 stipend to cover academic-year living expenses. Recipients will have the opportunity to work directly with Symantec's top researchers in new research projects, and will also have access to the company's technologies and vast intelligence network. In addition, recipients are eligible for a salaried summer internship at Symantec Research Labs to pursue innovative research. This allows the students to research and develop next-generation technologies that could impact millions of customers, in a real-world industry environment.

The Graduate Fellowship Program is open to both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens enrolled in a U.S. university doctoral or master of science program, pursuing innovative work in fields related to Symantec's business and research interests. Key goals of the program are to fund research in areas likely to result in tangible value for Symantec customers, and to fund scientists interested in pursuing eventual employment in the private sector.

"Symantec is committed to fostering innovative research and supporting promising new technologies across the security and availability landscape," said Darren Shou, senior manager of the Symantec Research Labs University Research Program. "Our support of the nation's top graduate students underscores this commitment, as these brilliant researchers apply their ingenuity and passion to solving real-world problems."

The deadline for completed applications and supporting materials for the 2008 award is November 30, 2007. The recipient award winners will be announced by January 31, 2008. For more information on eligibility rules, terms and how to apply for the fellowship, please visit the Web site at
