Local start-up, IQzone Inc., the first service for posting FREE classified ads via mobile phone, today announced ASU Student, Tyler Anderson, has won the company's Dorm Room Survival Challenge. Tyler filled his dorm room with all the essentials (and more!) using only the IQzone service. He enlisted the help of fellow students, and Arizona locals, businesses to complete the challenge.
On August 20, Tyler started his junior year at ASU, the nation's largest university with more than 60,000 students. His room at Sigma Chi was empty but for his PC, sleeping bag, and enough items to get him through the first few days of school. IQzone challenged Tyler to live off the company's service until September 14th.
Tyler was equipped with a phone, video camera and budget of $2000 that he needed to spend on a required list of items. Anything else he could fit into the budget or through begging/bartering/trading was allowed, but it had to be done solely through IQzone.
Fellow students and Arizona locals pitched in by posting items from their mobile phones using IQzone. Tyler documented his journey on daily video blogs on iqzone.com, YouTube and MySpace, and plugged local businesses that helped to support him.
Tyler more than succeeded! In addition to the dorm essentials on IQzone's list including bed, bedding, dresser, mini-fridge, microwave, alarm clock and clothing, Tyler wheeled and dealed his way to procure a plush leather couch, queen size bed, Sony flat-screen TV, Sony surround sound stereo, and Wii video game console -- all from IQzone.
Branded companies also pitched in to help Tyler! The N, a MTV Networks Company, sent him a Coby portable DVD player with a copy of its new series "About A Girl"; Pro Skateboarder, Jackass Star and Host of NESN's skateboarding show, 54321, Wee-Man, personally sent a signed limited-edition skateboard; Planet Earth sent Adio hats and a top-of-the-line backpack with skateboard storage; OboPay, a mobile payment service, opened Tyler a $200 account to make IQzone purchases that much easier!
With all the required items checked off the list, Tyler still had enough budget to purchase a Southwest Airlines ticket to San Diego where he enjoyed a weekend of sun and surf to celebrate the completion of his monthlong challenge. Congratulations, Tyler!
For his efforts, IQzone has rewarded Tyler with $1000 in cash and a night out on the town in a Party Bus for he and his undoubtedly growing number of friends! Those who helped Tyler have a great chance of getting invited to his big upcoming bash.
"Arizona locals, ASU students and businesses really stepped up to help me and got the ball rolling with mobile classifieds in this area.
It is the easiest way to sell stuff. Just take a photo or video with your phone, ad your text, price, zip and send to email@example.com!" said Anderson. "I'll never forget this. I want to thank IQzone for selecting me!"
