Saviano emerges as one of UNH's finest

A few years ago being an All-American college hockey player was just a dream, and hardly a reality for Steve Saviano. As it was he who was overlooked by most Division I college hockey coaches besides UNH head honcho Dick Umile. And his freshman year which included just two points in 16 games was everything short of All-American status.

 

UNH rallies from three-goal deficit to win title

I have seen hockey games, and I have seen hockey games. But the battle that the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team put on Sunday goes beyond words.

After a battle at Providence on Friday, which resulted in a 7-4 victory, the Wildcats were guaranteed a number one or two seed going into the Hockey East tournament.

#3 Cats build unprecedented 12-game win streak

It is a shame that they lost the first four out of five games because if they had won, a perfect season would have been in the record books. But the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team is looking at things in a very positive way. They have increased their winning streak to 12 games and 6-0 in America East play.

 

#4 Bullock leads UNH in stunning upset over UVM

Maybe it was the UNH basketball alumni watching the game, or the fired-up 1,148 fans who were in attendance, or possibly the fact they were facing the defending America East champions, Vermont. Either way, the Wildcats played an inspired 40 minutes of basketball, beating Vermont 78-57 this past Saturday.

#6 Wildcats "White out" Black Bears at the Whitt

Thunder sticks provided some thunderous offense last Saturday. Down 3-1 early in the first period against Maine, the second ranked University of New Hampshire Wildcats managed to rally back and score five unanswered goals for a 6-3 win. Three of those five goals were scored in the second period, all of which can easily be nominated the nicest goals of the year.

 

#7 Coler leads Wildcats to the big show

The UNH Women's volleyball team is heading to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year, as the Wildcats beat Albany, and Northeastern this weekend to win the America East Conference Tournament. Friday night UNH relied on it's star player, senior Alyson Coler, to defeat Albany in four games, 30-22, 29-31, 30-12, 30-26.

#8 Wishoski scores five goals in playoff win

To say Jackie Wishoski had a good game Tuesday would be an enormous understatement. The sophomore forward broke seven records in scoring five goals and adding an assist in a University of New Hampshire 7-2 victory over Northeastern University in the first round of the America East Tournament.

 

#9 'Cats have dynasty talks running all around

One dynasty ended. Another dynasty extended.

Such was the case for the University of New Hampshire men and women's cross country teams as it played the dual role of dominator and spoiler at the America East Championships at the University at Albany course on Saturday.

#10 Wildcats balance their beam to nationals

The University of New Hampshire women's gymnastics team received a bid today to compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, which will be held at Penn State's Rec Hall on Saturday, April 3 at 6 p.m.

The sixth-seeded Wildcats, ranked 33rd in the nation in the latest national polls with a regional qualifying score of 195.

Football is a battle between two teams for 60 minutes with many hard hits, tackles and superb plays in between. On Saturday, the University of New Hampshire team accomplished the hard hitting, tackling and superb plays but left one thing missing: the 60 minutes of play.
