Images of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 have been doing rounds on the web, especially in China.
When compared to what had come out earlier ion December, the latest images are different and rather than help solve the puzzle of what this phone will look like, the mystery continues.
With reports that Xiaomi feels it’s ready to come to the U.S. market with some of its top-featured phones, fingers have started pointing towards the Xiaomi Mi5 as the device the company will use to make its official mark in the most sought-after mobile market. Having taken a look at the different renders that are doing rounds, here is our take on what to expect as Xiaomi plan the release of its mid-range smartphone to the world this coming year.
There is nothing new as far as Xiaomi’s design language is concerned. The new Mi5 will feature a metal frame that comes with chamfered edges while glass will elegantly decorate the phone’s rear and front ends. One major difference and perhaps the most notable one is the elongated fingerprint scanner, which replaces the usual square shape we are used to seeing in previous Xiaomi handsets. The Chinese OEM has also adopted the much-hyped USB Type-C port with Quick Charge 3.0.
According to the latest rumors, the new Xiaomi Mi5 will come with a 5.2-inch QHD or Full HD display screen, and it will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset. Further inside users will find a RAM of 3 or 4GB and an internal storage of 32GB on the lower end variant and 64GB on the upper-end model. There is no word on microSD card support, but we expect to see it there.
Matters photography, Xiaomi has gone for a 16MP snapper on the rear and a massive 13MP snapper for selfies. The battery unit is a massive 3,600mAh package that will drive you through an entire day with comfortable usage. Whether the company will go for a removable or non-removable battery unit is still a doubt.
Pricing and release date
The rumored Xiaomi Mi5 will be no doubt one of the most spec-packed smartphones there is. In fact, the spec sheet displayed by this device makes it eligible to compete with the very best in the mobile world, but does it mean the phone will be priced similarly to what its competitors price their devices?
Well, this is a huge no! Chinese manufacturers are known for their top-end smartphones that are cheaply available, and it seems Xiaomi Mi5 will be joining this group. Also, Xiaomi has a reputation of setting standards when it comes to the bang-for-buck race.
As a result, don’t expect a huge price to be slammed on the Mi5 when it is released, however, you can still ready about $309 for the 32GB/3GB RAM model and $355 for the 64GB/4GB model.
Xiaomi Mi5 is expected to be released this January 2016, and if this holds, we might see the device during the CES event. However, none of this is confirmed, but we will keep tabs on it for you.
