WhatsApp Tips and Tricks: Read Messages Without Alerting the Sender

TNH Staff · January 22, 2016 · Leave a Comment

If you use WhatsApp on your Android or iOS phone, you’ve surely been to a point where you send your loved one a message, you can attest to it that they’ve read the message, but no reply comes back….

This is what the blue ticks came in to do – let someone know that you’ve read their messages. While it can at times be a very cool feature of telling whether someone is ignoring you, it can also put you in deep trouble if you are the one ignoring the messages.

Well, there is nothing to worry about, if you have ever gone through this. In fact, you don’t have to go through the same trouble anymore, thanks to this little trick. It is possible to read someone’s messages without triggering the blue ticks that imply you have read the messages.

The method is very easy and you’ll enjoy every bit of it. All you need to be is extra careful when you receive a message you don’t intend to reply to. Don’t be quick to open it as once you have, the sender will know that you already read it.

When the messages come in, first switch your phone to airplane mode or flight mode. After doing this, go back to the app and read your messages as usual. In this way, the blue ticks will not be triggered on the sender’s side – they’ll remain grey.

An alternative to this is to opt for the data connection or Wi-Fi connection options in the pull-down panel. Just switch off the source of your internet connection and then go back to WhatsApp to read your messages. Just like with the case of flight mode, this method will ensure that the double grey ticks don’t turn blue on the sender’s phone.

There you have it! You can now start ignoring messages from your ‘friends’ without pissing them off unnecessarily.
