Bethesda Hiring in Preparation for The Elder Scrolls 6?

TNH · March 12, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Bethesda Game Studios, the developer behind The Elder Scrolls and Fallout (not to be confused with Bethesda Softworks, the publisher, which is a common misconception), has recently announced four new job openings.

The developer is looking for an Engine Programmer, Game Programmer, and two Graphics Programmers. All four job descriptions, which can be found at Bethesda’s official website, invite candidates to join the “team that is pushing the bleeding-edge of RPG development.”

This alone suggests these jobs are for an RPG, although Bethesda is supposed to have several games in development, including something they’ve never done before. In December, Bethesda opened a second studio in Montreal to work on new projects. However, these job openings are for the main studio in Maryland, and the requirements also include familiarity with previous games from Bethesda Game Studios, which makes it even more likely they’re hiring for one of their existing RPG franchises.

Fallout 4 just came out, and while Bethesda could be working on more content for it or already beginning the sequel’s development, it’s probably Fallout’s turn to wait for a while. Bethesda has never been one to church out sequels. Without Fallout as a strong possibility, this feels like a good sign of The Elder Scrolls 6 on the horizon.

Development might have already begun on The Elder Scrolls 6, especially if a separate team worked on it while Fallout 4 was in development or being polished. Nevertheless, it’s probably still in early stages. Since Skyrim came out in 2011, it might still be a little too soon to expect the next game in the series. 2017, optimistically, but more likely 2018, are good estimates for when we’ll see The Elder Scrolls 6.

Future job openings might make it clearer what Bethesda is working on, but even this tiny confirmation that they’re actively working on a “bleeding-edge RPG” is welcome news for Elder Scrolls fans. Personally, we still anticipate Bethesda’s show at E3 2016 as a possible time we’ll hear more about this game.

Are you looking forward to The Elder Scrolls 6? When do you think it will be released—or even announced?
