TNH · February 10, 2017 · Leave a Comment

If you were born in the 80s or 90s and had access to a Windows PC, you’re probably familiar with Windows Media Player. In fact, you might have spent your childhood and teens watching videos and listening to music through this popular tool. Because of this, you might have missed it when you downloaded Windows 10 on your computer and found out that it didn’t come with Media Player 12.

Fortunately, there’s no need to fret since you can easily get download and install this application into your Windows 10 PC. Start by finding out what Windows 10 version you have. If it’s Windows 10 N or Windows 10 NK, you’ll definitely need to download Windows Media Player since these two versions were released without this application (among several others) due to European Commission regulations. If it’s not version N or NK, your Windows 10 most likely came pre-installed with Media Player 12. You can search for it by going to the Start menu, clicking on “Search programs and files”, and typing in “Windows Media Player 12”. The application will show up in the search results.

If you have Windows 10 N or NK, you can install Windows Media Player 12 in your PC by taking these steps:

  1. Know the bit version of the Windows 10 you have (32-bit or 64-bit). You’ll need this information to download the correct file. You can find out by pressing the Windows Key with the R key, typing in “dxdiag”, and clicking on OK.
  1. Visit the official Windows Media Player download page at microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53356.
  1. Select the language you want to use from the drop-down menu.
  1. Click the Download button.
  1. Choose the file you want to download. If you have a 32-bit Windows 10, you’ll need to download the KB3133719-x86.msu.msu file. If you have a 64-bit version, you’ll need to download the KB3133719-x64.msu.msu file.
  1. Click the Next button.
  1. Choose to open the downloaded file or save it if you want to install it later.

That’s it! Once you’ve downloaded the file, simply follow the instructions to install Windows Media Player 12 in your computer.
