NVIDIA SHIELD Devices Gets Android 7.0 Nougat Update

NVIDIA has finally announced that the upgrade 5.0 (also known as Android 7.0 Nougat) has been released for its SHIELD Tablet and SHIELD Tablet K1 devices. The new big update comes with many new things such as: split-screen mode (Nougat base feature), SHIELD Controller (2017), notification improvements, double tap option to return to the last opened applications and more.

It seems that the Shield Rewards Program has also been added, which brings an exclusive loyalty program for SHIELD owners. Below we will give you the full list of improvements and new additions that this upgrade comes with:

  • Updates to SHIELD Controller support;
  • Quick Switch: Double tap the overview button to switch back to the last opened application;
  • Split-screen: Run two applications side by side (landscape or portrait modes);
  • Reply to messages directly from the notifications;
  • Tap and hold a notification to silence or block the notifications from that particular application;
  • Multiple notifications from the same application are now bundled;
  • Doze on the Go: Doze will now make sure that your device stays alive for a long period of time;
  • All new Unicode 9 emojis have been added;
  • Display & Font size can now be adjusted separately to improve the screen space and readability;
  • The Quick Settings can now be customized directly from the menu by selecting “Edit”;
  • Settings option now has Navigation Menu & Suggestions to improve usability;
  • The “Clear all” option from “Overview” has been relocated to the top right side;
  • New Data Saver: when you enable this feature it will limit access to Cellular data for background application;
  • Update to Android Security Patch Level December 1, 2016;
  • New JIT Compiler that will improve the speed of App & System updates;
  • Shield Rewards has been added.
