Google Maps is definitely one of the best services for online mapping that you can find. The fact that the company added a real-time location sharing feature makes it even more valuable and useful. However, there are lots of other features not many people know about.
Adapting the route
Google is the owner of Waze, which is a peer-driven traffic app that helps people report the road conditions. By using the data that comes from here, the navigation system made by Google constantly adapts and adjusts to the road conditions.
Save maps offline
If you’re going to travel abroad and don’t want to waste money on your mobile data connection, you can simply save the maps of the place where you’re going so that you can access them offline. If you have the map data already downloaded, you can simply access it without any Internet connection.
Bike and ski itineraries
If you look up a certain ski resort, you can zoom in and see the details of the trail. A clever advice is to do so after you download the offline map of the area, since the connection can be weak in the mountains.
On the spot orientation
If you’re lost and don’t know what cardinal point you’re facing, you can simply tap the compass icon found on the top right corner of the screen. As such, the map will adjust immediately to show the real-world direction.
Save addresses you need often
Set the home and work addresses so that you won’t need to type them in every time. Go to the side menu of the app, tap on “Your places” and then enter the addresses you need most often. Save each other under different names and then you just have to type the name when you need directions to that particular address.
