One of biggest PC cultural phenomenon of the 21st century has got to be Half-Life 2 which basically has contributed in no small part to the overhaul of the FPS genre as soon as it launched back in 2004. Almost two decades later, a group of fans of Half-Life 2 is attempting to bring the VR experience into the game.
Recently, they have released a teaser trailer which shows what exactly the mod is aiming for and what it can be expected from it as soon as it’s released. Piloted by a small team that has been working on it for the past 4 to 5 years, their aim is to get a stable version of the mod on Steam Greenlight. People on Reddit have questioned the teams reasoning for taking the mod through with the explanation being that they attempted to contact Valve but with no success.
According to the team, players who wish to play the VR Half-Life 2 mod must have both episodes purchased on steam when it is released. It will be compatible upon release with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive and will have complete Touch and full motion controller support.
This is still very much a work-in-progress and as such the development team is still looking for talented individuals who wish to contribute in pushing the project forward and anyone with relevant skills is encouraged to contact the development team on Reddit. As far as we can tell from the trailer, the game itself does not make any changes to core game mechanics or textures, it is just an implementation of VR into the normal Half-Life 2 experience.
For any more updates, fans are encouraged to check out the projected under the Half-Life VR Subreddit.
