BMW is getting ready to launch the highly anticipated F90 M5. The car was recently tested on the track and we finally have nearly all the information we need to know about it. Even though we might not know detailed statistics such as the car’s exact power figures, we still have a good idea about how it runs and what we can expect from it. To make things even more interesting, we are going to compare it against Mercedes Benz E63 AMG.
Mercedes Benz E63 AMG
The reason we chose Mercedes Benz E63 AMG is that it’s the best four-door super sedan available for purchase right now and 2018 BMW F90 M5 will compete against it when it comes out. The E63 AMG is packed with a monster 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 that puts out 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. The engine is fitted with a nine-speed automatic gearbox that shifts power to all four wheels.
2018 BMW F90 M5
BMW also created a monster since the not-yet released F90 M5 is equipped with an even bigger 4.4-liter twin turbocharged V8. In terms of direct power, the engine will offer 600 horsepower and somewhere around 516 lb-ft of torque. Just like Mercedes Benz’s car, the new BMW will also feature an all-wheel drive system. Another interesting thing we need to mention about 2018 BMW F90 M5 is that it will be significantly lighter than E63 AMG.
Final Words
If we are looking only at speed, 2018 BMW F90 M5 is a tad more powerful. However, E63 AMG compensates for that with its higher torque output while on the other hand, BMW 2018 F90 M5 is way lighter. Therefore, the race between these two cars is a close one and they come out as close equals.
