Playing DVDs With Windows Media Player On Different Windows Versions

TNH Online · April 11, 2018 · Leave a Comment

You could play just about any video format using the old Windows Media Player. But that is no longer applicable with modern DVD or Blu-Ray video formats on Windows 10 or 8 platforms. That is why you need to download third-party media players that would support DVDs and other related video formats on your Windows PC.

Third-party media players like VLC or MPC-HC would provide more robust support for specific video formats such as MKV. You may have experienced using an upgrade pack for Windows 8 to enable the playback of DVDs. Sadly, that wouldn’t work anymore with modern video formats.

VLC is among the most famous video players that can play Blu-Ray discs or DVDs. It can be downloaded from the official website videolan.org/vlc, which is an open-source player. This means that it wouldn’t mess up your experience with spyware or ads.

Media Player Classic or MPC-HC is also another famous third-party media player that you can use for this purpose. You may be able to download this app from the link mpc-hc.org, which is also an open-source app that wouldn’t bother its users with adware.

You will be able to use VLC or MPC-HC on Windows XP and Vista platforms on your PC. However, when issues arise, you need to troubleshoot a DVD that would not play. Here are some possible reasons that could affect your viewing pleasure.

  • Take note that some DVD players would likely be able to play DVDs coming from the same region. If importing DVDs is your thing, you might be able to fix it by flashing the firmware of your DVD player.
  • If in case your DVD player is failing, you might not be able to play any DVDs. So, you need to install third-party media players that should be able to play DVDs using your computer.
